Ben Olson
Ben Olson is a painter living and working in New York City. In 1998 he graduated from the University of Minnesota at Duluth with degrees in painting and graphic design, and has consistently exhibited his work in Americaʼs major markets ever since. His large scale acrylic paintings have been placed in several private collections and are routinely exhibited in esteemed contemporary arts venues including Murphy and Dine Gallery, New York; Art Now Art Fair, Miami; and the Minnesota Museum of American Art, St. Paul. Benʼs practice is extremely personal, as it is directly reflective of his relationship with his subjects.
Each painting reveals a genuine intimacy between artist and subject, against the backdrop of an imagined and fantastical dreamscape. Concentrated colors and bold impasto brushwork dare the viewer to explore this world which hovers between fiction and reality. At once haunting and provoking, sumptuous and vivid, Ben Olsonʼs work asks us to step into this world somewhere between real and unreal.
