Blaise + Co. Contemporary Art and Swagger: New York Present
The Beautiful Chaos: A Style Installation
March 23, 2011
NEW YORK, NY – Artist management agency Blaise + Co. Contemporary Art is teaming up with street style site Swagger: New York to host the March 16th opening of a highly-anticipated exhibition by artist Damon Johnson, The Beautiful Chaos: A Style Installation. Combining street art with fashion, Johnson’s work will explore the fusion of these two underground disciplines. On view at the Lower East Side’s GALLERY BAR at 120 Orchard Street from March 8-21, the installation will announce itself in style with a culturally-stimulating soirée on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 23RD FROM 7 – 10PM.
The Beautiful Chaos: a Style Installation marks the first occasion a Contemporary artist is working with the recently launched WALLS 360 graphics. In the spirit of true innovation and fearless creation, Johnson experiments with the wall graphics to create an installation that future artists will look to as an example of exploring new artistic techniques and mediums.
As a native New Yorker, Johnson’s work reflects the undying dynamism of his surroundings. Using found materials to paint small murals which he then bolted to the cityscape of downtown Manhattan, Johnson literally installed his artwork into the city before the term “street art” had been coined. Johnson creates his signature “urban surrealist” style by drawing inspiration from pulp novels, graffiti art, skateboard culture and comic books. For this exhibit, however, Johnson expertly incorporates distinctive snapshots of the everyday style icons featured on Swagger: New York.
“Because I’ve been given the opportunity to adapt my technique to a material no other artist has ever worked with, this installation is a wonderfully unpredictable work in progress. It is definitely beautiful chaos. I’m thrilled that Blaise + Co. discovered this incredible WALLS360 product,” says Johnson.
“This project is the quintessential example of a collaborative effort between two stylish sub-cultures – emerging art, and underground fashion. We’re thrilled to promote Damon Johnson’s work by finding the perfect creative counterpart – in this case, the street-style fashion of Swagger:New York,” says Blaise Niosi.
